Alma, directed by Eden Genish, is a vibrant musical short film that tells the story of a young, shy girl who faces her social fears through the art of salsa dancing. The film weaves together energetic dance sequences with a heartfelt narrative, exploring the transformative power of music and movement in overcoming personal challenges. The project was designed to bring together the joy and intensity of salsa with the internal struggle of a girl learning to find her voice.

Challenges & Approach

The main challenge was to blend the emotional depth of the protagonist’s inner journey with the lively and passionate world of salsa dancing. To convey this contrast, we used dynamic camera movements to capture the fluidity of the dance sequences, while intimate close-ups allowed us to show Alma’s vulnerability and internal growth. The choreography was carefully crafted to mirror her personal evolution, with each step representing a milestone in her emotional journey.

The Result

The final short film is a visually stunning and emotionally uplifting experience. The salsa sequences are full of energy and color, serving as a metaphor for Alma's journey toward self-confidence.
